THE ORIGINS - |

Dating back to XII century, it was probably a norman military camp. In 1460 Alessandro Sforza at the head of the aragonese troups conqueres the town. In 1527, the year of the plague, the San Rocco church is built outside the walls.

SANT'OMERO NOWADAYS - |

Sant'Omero is a flourishing town standing up a small hill. It still has some remains of the ancient walls. Its commerce and craftmeship are flourishing. It is an ideal centre for a cultural and relaxing vacation.

WHAT TO SEE -

Church of Santa Maria a vico
Romanic church dating back to the X century, it’s the most ancient church in Abruzzo and it was built over the ruins of a roman temple dedicated to
Ercules.Inside it there’s the roman epigraph
"decreto dei cultori di Ercole", which asked to the members of the temple to celebrate avery year the liberta Claudia Hedonia and her son Tiberio Claudio Himerio through a banquet inside the
temple.

Church of S. Antonio abate
Church in baroque style, it’s located near the monastery of the friars
Convertuali.

Church of S. S. Annunziata
Rebuilt in the XVII century by the Mendoza y Alarçon, it stands over the belfry of the 1300 Church of
Misericordia. It is nowadays known as "chiesa
Marchesale".

Longobard warrior
Inside the town-hall there’s the upper part of a longobard sarcophagus showing a
warrior.

S.Apollonia statue
Ancient statue to which were directed the prayers for calming the
toothache. If the toothache wasn’t soothed, there was the habit of throwing stones against the statue
(signs of the stones are nowadays visible).

"Pingiare"
They are old houses made of clay and straw, among the most perfect in the Teramo area.
