ABRUZZO NATIONAL PARK - |

History
The Abruzzo National Park was founded in 1923 with royal decree n° 257 become low in July in the same
year.

The area
The National Park extends approximately for 44.000 hectare and it includes twentytwo communes of three
provinces, L'Aquila, Frosinone and Isernia. The ¾ of the area in Abruzzo includes eleven
communes: Alfedena, Barrea, Bisegna, Civitella Alfedena, Gioia dei
Marsi, Lecce dei Marsi, Opi, Pescasseroli, Scanno,
Villavallelonga, and Villetta Barrea. Actually the National Park is divided in four area:
complete preserve, general preserve, Protection of the
countryside, development.
Though it is true that the national park represents a magnificent jewel among the natural resources of Abruzzo.

Routes
The itinerary is starting from Sulmona and returning there after having visited some sites of great historical and artistic interest. Sulmona, Cocullo, Ortona dei Marsi, Bisegna, Pescasseroli, Opi, Villetta Barrea, Scanno, Villa Lago, Anversa degli Abruzzi.

Excursions
The nature in Abruzzo is wild, varied and unpredictable as such offers the opportunity of exciting and challenging for sports. The area is ideal for walking, horse riding, mountain-biking, trakking, birdwatching in the reserves, canoeing and windsurf on the lake. Cross-country race, in the Macchiarvana and Passo Godi ski pistes, cross-country race and mountaineering.

The area
The park has an area of 148.935 acres, including 44 towns belonging to L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, Ascoli and Rieti
districts. The Abruzzo's area (9/10 of the entire area) includes the following
towns: Arsita, Barete, Barisciano, Brittoli, Bussi sul Tirino, Cagnano
Amiterno, Calascio, Campli, Campotosto, Capitignano, Carapelle
Calvisio, Carpineto della Nora, Castel del Monte, Castelli, Castelvecchio
Calvisio, Castiglione a Casauria, Civitella Casanova, Civitella del Tronto, Cortino,
Corvara, Crognaleto, Fano Adriano, Farindola, Isola del Gran Sasso, L'Aquila,
Montereale, Montorio al Vomano, Ofena, Pietracamela,
Pizzoli, Rocca Santa Maria, Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Teramo, Torricella Sicura,
Tossicia, Valle Castellana, Villa Celiera and Villa Santa Lucia.

Tourists can leave from Roseto - Villa Vomano - Canzano - Prati di Tivo - Castelli - Campo Imperatore.

It's possible to make excursion on foot, on horseback, by mountain-bike. You can also choose
among: trekking, giuded tours, naturalistic photography,
nature-watching, bird-watching, cicle-tourism, mountaineering (on the Corno Grande, Corno Piccolo, Monte Camicia and Pizzo
d'Intermisoli walls), climbing, canoa and windsure (in
Campotosto), cross-country ski (in Castel del Monte, Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Pietra
CAmela), mountaineering-ski, climbing on ice-walls, sky.

The Morrone National Park was founded in 1991, together with the foundation of the Gran Sasso National Park.

The park has an area of 74.095 acres, including the Pescara, chieti and L'Aquila
districts, and the following towns: : Abbateggio,
Ateleta, Bolognano, Campo di Giove, Cansano, Caramanico Terme, Civitella Messer Raimondo,
Corfinio, Fara San Martino, Gamberale, Guardiagrele, Lama dei
Peligni, Lettomanoppello, Lettopalena, Montenerodomo,
Pacentro, Palena, Palombaro, Pennapiedimonte,
Pescocostanzo, Pizzoferrato, Popoli, Pretoro, Rapino,
Rivisondoli, Rocca Pia, Roccacasale, Roccamorice,
Roccaraso, Salle, San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, Sant'Eufemia a Maiella,
Serramonacesca, Sulmona, Taranta Peligna and Tocco da
Casauria.

History
The Sirente Velino Regional Park was founded from Abruzzo region in 1998.

The area
The park extends for 59.140 hectares in L'Aquila province and the territory includes the following
communes: Acciano, Aielli, Castel di Ieri, Castelvecchi, o -
Subbequo, Celano, Cerchio, Fagnano, Fontecchio, Gagliano
Aterno, Goriano Sicoli, L'Aquila, Magliano dei Marsi, Massa D'Albe, Molina
Aterno, Ocre, Ovindoli, Pescina, Rocca di Cambio, Rocca di Mazzo,
Secinaro, Collarmele e Tione degli Abruzzi. To the west the Park marks the boundary with Lazio
(Latium), to the south with Piana del Fucine and with Aterno river on north -
north-east. The Sirente Velino Regional Park including the third summit of the Appennines with Monte Velino (2487
mt) and the Massif of Sirente extended for 20 km.

From Celano, Ovindoli to the L'Aquila direction: Rocca di Mezzo, Rocca di Cambio, Campofelice, Grotte di Stiffe, San Panfilo D'Ocre, L'Aquila.
