THE ORIGINS- |

The real fame of corropoli lies in the village of "Ripoli" which has given its name to a distinct neolithic culture whose main testimony is a particular type of pottery painted in stripes. Corropoli was invated from a lot of different raiders. In 1993 the Corropoli castle was sold from Antonio Acquaviva to made the marriage dower for his son Andrea Matteo I with Caterina Tomacelli Cybo. in 1460 Corropoli was invated from Alessandro Sforza and Federico da Montefeltro. In 1960 the Acquaviva duke become again the chief of Corropoli and in 1787 with Controguerra town it will became one of the therteen judicial and administrative governments of the state of Atri.

CORROPOLI NOWADAYS - |

Corropoli is situated on a hill among the valleys and between two torrents. The origin are medieval and there are two important old buildings from '800 and '700 century.. Every year in corropoli there is the internartional festival and folklore which attacks numerous holiday-makers from the coast, a good opportunity to see this small attractive town. It's vell known for its traditions, gastronomy and
handicraft.

WHAT TO SEE - |

Pič di Corte square
Heart of the town, the square was built using the remains of a lords'
castle. It was finished in 1836.

Sant'Agnese church
Built over a roman building, it is now as it was after a XVI century enlargment and the XIX century
restorations. The church has only one nave with a vault
ceiling, the decorations are from 1800 and the altars are
baroque. Inside the church there is a polichrome terracotta statue of the Madonna delle grazie and the altorilievo of the Madonna
Majulana.

Bell-Tower
The tower was made by the master Antonio da Lodi, and it is one of the four
"brother belfries" in the Teramo area. Built between the XV e il XVI
century, its style is from Atri. The brick belfry presents a row of small
archs, and windows surrounded by majolicas and merlons.

S. Benedetto monastery
Situated in Gabbiano, it is an ancient church with a monastery already known in 1327. It is built with bricks and it has only one nave. Inside it there are a 1600 painting representing San Bernardino, a baroque
tabernacle, a wooden painted reliquary and a stone holy water
stoup. Near the church there's the brick monastery.

Santa Maria di Majulano monastery
Ancient monastery already existing in 1018, it was built over the remains of a pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Flora. Nowadays little traces
(such as the bell-tower) remain of the medieval building. The building that today we can admire is of modern
construcution.

Santa Maria degli Angeli Convent
Located in Montagnola, it is totally abandoned but it is possible to see the remains of the convent that the Duchess of Atri Francesca Caracciolo ordered to build in 1688. The convent was originally a summer brothel for the Duches of atri. Inside the
convent, with a single nave, still there are late baroque statues and decorated altars from 1700. The fine painted
ceiling, representing Christ's Glory, has gone lost.
