- THE ORIGINS- 

Colonnella has very ancient origins. Neolitical remains have been discovered in its territory, as well as remains from the roman age. The town was part of the Ducato of Spoleto in the XXth century, then of the Reign of Naples and of the Two Sicilies up to its becoming part of the Reign of Italy in 1861.

- COLONNELLA NOWADAYS -

Colonnella 's buildings are mostly from the XIX and XX century. The town is situated on the top of a hill , in a panoramic position. It is a modern town, even if it still has an atmosphere of old ages. Famous for its festivals and cultural manifestations, Colonnella is a town with a lot to offer to the tourists: tranquillity, culture, craftmanship, cooking traditions.

- WHAT TO SEE -

Clock tower
Symbol of the town, whose date of building is not sure, it still has inside its original structure, replaced in 1970 with a mechanical one.

Old Spring
Roman spring that runs through all the hill.

Ottone fountain
The fountain is in Contrada Marino, and it is called like that in honour of the emperor Ottone.

Roman cisterns
On the Pianaccio hill, in contrada S.Martino, there a roman cistern called "Cincola" still in good state. Near Villa Ricci there is an other roman cistern called "Ricci", also in good conditions.

Soil houses
The soil houses still exixtent in Colonnella are really characteristic. Some of them are still inhabited, and are in perfect conditions.

S. Cipriano and Giustina Church
The church is a brick building with only one nave, with a steeple on whose top there's a dome surmounted by a cross. Built by the architect Pietro Maggi between 1795 and 1817 (over the remains of a XVI century church) , inside it there are a picture of the Adorazione by the painter Alessandrino di Ortona, a picture of San Cipriano and S. Giustina, a wooden statue of the Madonna del Suffragio (painted and enriched with golden dresses), and a 27 pipes fine organ.
