THE ORIGINS- |
|
Ancarano was built near a temple dedicated to the goddess Ancaria. The village, donated by Carlo Magno to the Bishop of Ascoli, was conquered and destroyed by the Spanish troups in 1557. It was part of Napoleon's Reign, of the Vatican, of the Roman Republic and of the Reign of the Two Sicilies. In 1860 Ancarano became part of the Reign of Italy.

Ancarano is a nice town facing the Tronto
Valley, and it has the typical structure of an ancient
suburb: among the new buildings we still can admire remains of the
past. Offering characteristic craftmanship shops, Ancarano is an interesting touristic
destination.

WHAT TO SEE - |
|
Church of the Madonna of Charity
Outside of the walls, the Church was built around 1628.It's a brick
church, with an octagonal plant, with a dome on the top. The eight walls of the church are decorated with
cornices. Inside, there's a picture dating back to 1569, but its conditions are not
good.

Church of the Madonna of the Peace
Modern church, inside it there are the statue of the Madonna with the Child
(dating back to the IVth century), a finest wooden cross
(dating back to the end of the XVI century), some 1700 pictures and the urn with
S.Simplicio's relics.

Walls and main doors
There are still two main doors that were part of the defence
walls: the arched Sea Door looking at East, and the Mount Door looking at West.

Monsignor's fountain
It's an ancient roman spring.

De Angelis Palace
Building dating back to the XVI century, with characteristic cornices and stone windows.
