The centre, which nowadays wecan see, before the 1000 still was a marshy area. The coast was not populated because of the unhealthy area and of the banditry. After 1500 the coast towers were built to defend the place from the Turkish and the Saracens.The population lived in small villages, with little defence, on the hills. Because of the geographic difficulties, the first important buildings were erected around 1900, and before that period only small fishermen's huts existed on the coast. After the I world War there were the first settlings. Since its beginning Alba Adriatica showed a particular interest for tourism as a concrete help to its development.

Alba Adriatica, "golden beach", is maybe one of the most emerging resorts in the centre of Italy. The population has devoloped more and more interest in tourism, infact the town is mostly based on it. A.A. offers modern hotels and touristic facilities, typical restaurants and local craftmanshup shops.

The fortified tower
Tower for the coast sightseeing , dating back to XVI century, it was built by the Spanish. Its higher part is really characteristic: merloned, it was used as a square for the artillery.
